Dear Tom,
How are you doing? How time flies! I have been back to China for half a year. I miss you so much!
Every time I catch sight of our photos taken in America, I can’t help thinking of what you have done for me. It was so kind of you to help me with my spoken English. Besides, you made me master a lot of advanced English grammar, which really surprised me. What’s more, I shall always remember you encouraged me to correct my pronunciation by enjoying American TV programs.
By the way, Could you please tell me how can I get in touch with Mr. Smith? I have some learning problems to ask him.
Besides, I know you are interested in the historical Chinese civilization. Why not come to China to enjoy the Spring festival? I promise you won’t regret!
Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
Dear friends,
Im awfully sorry to hear that a horrible and severe earthquake unexpectedly hit your hometown. Faced with such a rarely-seen disaster, you remain so calm and strong-willed that we are all moved to tears. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Thinking about your present situation, we can not wait a minute to make every bit of our effort to help you. I, as the chairman of student union, on behalf of all my schoolmates, express our most sincere pity and care for you. Besides, we make a donation of 120 thousand yuan to you, expecting that it can help you go through the difficulty. A better hometown can be rebuilt. Therefore, never give up whatever happens. Remember we wont be far away when you need any help!
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua
Dear Sir or Madame,
As one of the regular customers of your online store, I am writing this letter to express my complaint against the flaws in your product—an electronic dictionary I bought in your shop the other day.
The dictionary is supposed to be a favorable tool for my study. Unfortunately, I found that there are several problems. To begin with, when I opened it, I detected that the appearance of it had been scratched. Secondly, I did not find the battery promised in the advertisement posted on the homepage of your shop, which makes me feel that you have not kept your promise. What is worse, some of the keys on the keyboard do not work.
I strongly request that a satisfactory explanation be given and effective measures should be taken to improve your service and the quality of your products. You can either senda new one to me or refund me my money in full.
I am looking forward to your reply at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely yours,
Zhang Wei

Dear my friend,
I am here writing to your to express my gratitude to you for congratulation.
You mentioned how to improve the translation ability. Now I would like to offer you some suggestions.
The most important factor to be considered is that you must grasp a of vocabulary, which is the foundation for translation. Secondly, you can try to practice translation everyday. After your translation, you can compare your translation with the given answer. Last but not the least, you must pay very close attention to the difference between the two languages. Differences between laguges must be considered when you are translating.
I am looking forward to meeting you in the near future. Then, we can have a talk face to face. I sincerely hope that my suggestions can be constructive to you.
Truly yours
Dear Ann,
Thank you for your letter. I’m glad you like your school.
I go to school from Monday to Friday. We have four classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon. We have many things to do after class. On Monday and Thursday afternoon we have sports. On Tuesday afternoon some of us have a singing class and on Wednesday afternoon we practise speaking English. My classmates are very friendly. We learn each other and help each other.
On Saturdays and Sundays I don’t go to school. Very often I go to the parks and have a good time with my family there.
Yours,

Dear Tom,
How are you doing? How time flies! It has been half a year since I came back to China. I miss you so much!
Every time I catch sight of our photos taken in America, I just can't help thinking of what you have done for me. It was so kind of you to help me practice my spoken English patiently. Besides, you taught me a lot of advanced grammar, which really surprised me. Actually, I shall always remember you shared with me many outstanding English novels, considering that I am extremely interested. Nothing will be able to erase our wonderful memories, and I will cherish them forever.
By the way, could you please tell me Mr. Smith’s telephone number and his email address? I would like to turn to him for some help.
What’s more, I remember you are crazy about traditional Chinese culture. The spring festival is around the corner. Why not come to enjoy it? I promise you won’t regret.

Dear Editor,
I'm writing to tell you about the discussion on whether an entrance fee should be charged for parks. Opinions vary from person to person on this issue.
50% of the students disagree with the idea of entrance fees. In their opinion, parks are public places where all the people can have a rest and enjoy themselves. So if an entrance fee is charged, some people will surely be kept away from the park. Besides, in order to charge entrance fees, gates and walls must be built. They think that it will do harm to the appearance of a city.
40% of the students agree with the idea of entrance fees, because the gardeners need to be paid and new plants and flowers need to be fees should be charged reasonably.

Dear Sir,
I saw your advertisement for "the perfect lighter" in Sunday Times last week and immediately sent off a £2 postal order and the completed form for the lighter.
Imagine my surprise when all I got in return was a box of matches! I could understand a mistake. I might even pardon a joke. But in this case, your advertisement is a deliberate lie since a friend of mine who also sent the coupon got the same result.
I think it's a shame to promise an economical lighter when in fact you are not selling a lighter a1 all. Instead of saying it works quickly, you should admit that you are offering matches. And what about "only" £2: I usually pay 10 pennies for a box of matches, and they are often given away free.
I regard your advertisement as a serious deception and demand that you send me my money back immediately. Otherwise I will take active steps to make sure the Consumers' Association hear about it.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Li
Dear Sue,
I’m Li Hua, one of your students in China. It’s almost a month since you left us. We all miss you and are very grateful for what you did for us.
We are busy as usual. We had an English speech contest the other day. I won the first prize! This again reminds me of all your kind help. Do you still remember the trees we planted together on the hill behind the school? Yesterday, we went there and watered them. The tree you planted yourself is growing well, and the whole class decided to name it Sue Wood. Will you come back to see Sue Wood?
How is everything with you lately? We hope to know more about you and your American students. Hope to keep in close touch.
All the best.
Yours

Dear Mr. Seaton,
Thank you very much for taking me with you on that splendid outing to London. It was the first time that I had seen the Tower or any of the other famous sights. If Id gone alone, I couldnt have seen nearly as much, because I wouldnt have known my way about.
The weather was splendid on that day, which I thought was rare. I still remember some people told me that in Britain there was weather and no climate. During the same day, it might snow in the morning, rain at noon, shine in the afternoon and be windy before the night falls. So I think I was lucky.
Ithink the river trip was the best thing of all. London really came alive for me as we saw it from the Thames during that wonderful journey down to Greenwich. It was all tremendously exciting - a day that I shall never forget.
Thank you for giving me such a great birthday treat.
Yours sincerely,
Linda Chen

Dear Mary,
Thanks for your last letter. I'm so glad that you have been able (at last! ) to arrange a holiday in Australia. As I fear I won't be able to meet you at the airport when you arrive, nor will I be able to be home until later in the afternoon, so here are some instructions and suggestions.
There is a bus from the airport to the city. It is much cheaper than a cab. Take the bus to the city and ask to get off at Town Hall railway station.
To get to my place in the eastern suburbs you have three options. You can either take a cab, a bus or the train. I suggest you take the train, since the airport bus will leave you right at the station. Get off at Cliff Station. From there you can either walk to my place (about ten minutes) or take a taxi. Probably you should take a taxi as you will have luggage.
When you arrive at my flat, ring the intercom for Flat 2. My friend Lillian will be at home and she will open the front door for you and let you into my flat.
Presumably you will be tired and want to sleep. But if you feel like some exercise after that long flight, you could stroll down to Cooper Park, which is only ten minutes away ? you can see it from the window.
Cheers and looking forward to seeing you.
Yours sincerely,
Annie
Dear Editor-in-Chief,
Congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Global Mirror!
I’m a regular reader of your newspaper. I like it so much that I hardly miss any copy.
There are many advantages of Global Mirror. Firstly, Global Mirror covers both national and international news. By simply turning the pages, I can know all important things that have happened both home and abroad. Besides, the success stories of world-famous people are also attractive to me, which help me learn a lot from them. In a word, thanks to Global Mirror, we are well-informed and keep up with the changing world.
As a young student, I wish that I can be a master of English language. Therefore, I suggest that Global Mirror provide articles about English learning for us.
Finally, I hope that Global Mirror will become more and more popular. Thank you for your time!
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua

Dear Mr. Wang:
Thank you for taking the time to write your wonderful letter in support of MCEA (Maywood Chinese Education Association). Your letter clearly articulates all the major reasons children in Maywood will benefit from studying the Chinese language as part of their elementary school education. It provides invaluable support that will help making bilingual Chinese education a reality in Maywood public schools.
Although MCEA would like to see Palo Alto public schools implement the first bilingual Chinese kindergarten class in September of 20_, we have learned that the school district must take the time to understand how a new program will affect existing educational offerings, and to validate community interest. Nevertheless, MCEA, with more than 70 members, will continue to actively promote bilingual Chinese education in the Palo Alto public schools and will keep you apprised of the progress we make.
Thanks again for sending a letter in support of MCEA. We' will continue to do all we can to realize this program both for families of Chinese descent and those with a general interest in participating in the growing economic power of China.
Yours sincerely,
George Chen
