I believe that one of the factors that makes a piece of literature or evena movie a masterpiece is how well the reader can relate to the story. This isdefinitely a book everyone can relate to.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a literary masterpieces, written in 1876 bythe famous author Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives inthe small town on the Mississippi River called St. Petersburg. The story line issimple, the book reads like a biography or a memoir of a summer in Tom Sawyerslife.
It is a story filled with action, adventure,, ingenious ideas, love, andschoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what peopledid or wish they did during their childhood.
The book is a little difficult to read at first. Personally, it takes me alittle while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book. Other thanreferring to persons of African decent in derogatory terms (which Im sure usesterms even young children already know), the book would be an enjoyable read forpeople of all ages. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to feelyoung again, if just for a few hundred pages.
Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in myopinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectlyreflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave thepeople in her works vivid characters.
The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman whomakes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly youngman, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feelsuperior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane issimple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl whoalways has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is apedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister,Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is
somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find thesame personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeedthe representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favouritetopic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratumsituation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can findthese from the very beginning of this book.
The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truthwell known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a largefortune must be in need of a wife”. The undertone is very clear: the foundationof the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.
People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. Infact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result ofeconomic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor womanmust be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.
I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention thesituation in Britain at that time. Only the eldest son had the privilege ofinheriting his father’s possessions. Younger sons and daughters who are used toluxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a largefortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that gettingmarried is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without manypossessions. Jane Austen told us that money and possession determinedeverything, including marriage and love in her century.
In “Pride and Prejudice”, the sister of Mr. Bingley strongly opposed hisplan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don’t have many possessions and theirsocial positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lotof obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.
In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreasedrapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in somepeople’s mind. A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’smarriages. Education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason thatmay influence one’s marriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in oursociety. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?
Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies inthis perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. AlthoughAusten was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observationof social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. Theplots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is asinevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudiceis the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book stillcan be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and inmodern time.
After reading "A tale of two cities".
"A tale of two cities" is one of Dickenss most important representativeworks. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the FrenchRevolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute andcruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel alsodescribed many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille andso on,which displayed peoples great strength.

Love is a minor child the parents of the most taboo thing, love is theyoung men and women most want to have things, love is a very old looking toaccompany grateful when things. It plays many roles, it can be tragic comedydirector can also be planners; it can be a poison can also be a honey, no onecan touch the penetration it. Once the jump into the trap of love, like arrowsno longer beyond recovery to Li Xian, but stubbornly toward their own goals andflew ignore distance, straight through the air, finally landing. After landingthere are two possibilities: one is intact reach the target, and the other isbecause for some reason, broken wings ... ...
A wonderful end of the story, usually in comedy ended, readers read theyare happy and can be seen in a few days later it will be forgotten. If a storyends in tragedy, then it must be something left in the readers mind, or regret,or pity, so that the reader repeatedly chew and thought. People are the pursuitof perfection. At the same time, people also praise the beauty of defects, itseems a contradiction, but not does not seem contradictory.
