Our own national culture
Nowadays, some western holidays like Christmas Eve and Valentine’s Day have become so popular with Chinese people that they have been a part of some people’s life. On the contrary, some traditional Chinese festivals gradually are ignored by more and more people, especially young people. However, to our delight, some social groups have appealed to common people for more attention to our own national culture.
Although a few people once advocated that traditional festivals like the Spring Festival should be discarded because they have become obstacles to social progress. It can not be accepted and supported by the majority of Chinese people in reality. Indeed, the old way of spending festivals produces several disadvantages such as money wasting and transportation overloading. But we cannot disregard its other side: traditional festivals play an active role in our life. Traditional festivals not only bring joy but also bring the family together, which is so priceless in modern society.
What we should do is to preserve the positive things and make them flourish in the modern world. As for the negative aspects of it, we should not hesitate to abandon them and prevent them from affecting and troubling us and the next generation.

Before the Spring Festival, we will clean our home, because it can wash away bad things and good luck in the New Year. On New Year's eve, all the family members have dinner together, and the dinner is very big. After dinner, people watch Spring Festival shows on TV. People keep watch until midnight, and then they go and set off firecrackers. On the morning of the Spring Festival, people finish their meal early, then visit each other and say ^v^happy New Year!^v^ The children pay their respects to the old people, and the old ones give the children money. The children play together, and they play beautiful fireworks.
On this day, people like to wear red new clothes that represent auspiciousness, people paste Spring Festival couplets, eat dumplings and so on. Everybody passes warmth and happiness, everybody is very happy!
The Mid-Autumn is a very important Chinese festival. It falls on the 15th day of August. A few days before the festival, everyone in the family will help to make the house clean and beautiful. Lanterns will be hung in front of the house. On the
evening there will be a big family dinner. People who work far away from their homes will try to come back for the union. After dinner, people will light the lanterns which are usually red and round. Children will play with their own toy lanterns happily. At night the moon is usually round and bright. People can enjoy the moon while eating moon-cakes which are the special food for this festival. They can look back on the past and look forward to the future together. It is said that there was a dragon in the sky. The dragon wanted to swallow up the moon. To protect the frighten the dragon away.

Today is May Day。 My mother father and me went to park to have a picnic， and then visited my grandma and grandpa。
In the morning at nine o’clock， we went to park for picnic， we took juice， cornflakes， apples， oranges， lollipops， bananas， ice creams， mangoes， and so on。 I also took toys， such as doll， ball， balloon， skateboard and a kite。
In the afternoon at two o’clock， we went to visit my grandma and grandpa。 I helped grandpa to do some house work。 My sister and me played skateboard and doll。 At eight o’clock we went home， and played computer games for two hours and then went to bed。
Today I’m very happy!
My favorite holiday is the Spring Festival. It is also named the Chinese New Year. The holiday comes in January or February. A series of colorful celebration activities begin on new year's eve, the last day of the last lunar month. Chinese New Year has long been an occasion for family reunions. During this holiday, my families will get together to make dumpings and have big feasts. Adults set off firecrackers. In the evening, we children can enjoy fireworks or play with latern. The most fascinating part for me is the luky money. It is a red envelope full of cash given by parents. I often use the money to buy some stationary, and keep little in my piggy bank.
Spring Festival is a Chinese traditional holiday. I like it best.
My favorite holiday is Mid-autumn Day. Do you know why? Firstly, it’s day for family gathering. On Mid-autumn Day, families will stay together and eat a big dinner. My families always make very delicious food. After dinner, families will enjoy the beautiful full moon. We often have a good talk and eat moon cakes and fruits. For me, I like moon cakes very much. Mid-autumn Festival is a popular and important lunar harvest festival celebrated by Chinese people. The festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar. There are some traditions in this holiday.
For example, people would have a big dinner with there families. After dinner, they often enjoy the full moon which is round and bright. The other tradition of mid-autumn festival is eating moon cake. Moon cake is the essential of that day, which means reunion. As time goes by, there are various kinds of moon cakes, but they are much more expensive than before. Spring Festival ,known as the Chinese New Year, is the most important holiday in late January to early February,Chinese people are busy preparing for the New clean their houses ,have their hair cut,and buy new clothes .Jiaozi or dumpling is most those who live far away from their home,this festival is also a framily reunion occasion.
And they often go back home to celebrate the festival with their first day of the new year is the time when people visit their friends adn wish each other good luck in the new year.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar.
For thousands of years, the festival has been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous ricewrapped to form a pyramid using bamboo or reed leaves) and racing dragon boats.
The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes.
T the death of Qu Yuan , an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river. The dragon-boat races symbolize the many attempts to rescue and recover Qu's body. A typical dragon boat ranges from 50-100 feet in length, with a beam of about feet, accommodating two paddlers seated side by side.

My favorite holiday is Mid-Autumn day. The Mid-Autumn festival is a traditional festival in China, with the four traditional festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and the qingming festival. It originated during the tang dynasty, when it was the center of the moon. In the qingming period, became the ^v^folk festival^v^.
On the evening of the Mid-Autumn festival, our family will enjoy a full moon together, eat moon cakes and watch the Mid-Autumn festival on TV. The Lantern Festival or Yuanxiao Jie is a traditional Chinese festival, which is on the 15th of the first month of the Chinese New Year. The festival marks the end of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year.
Chinese started to celebrate the Lantern Festival from the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 221 AD).
Like most other Chinese festivals, there is also a story behind the Festival. It is also believed that the festival has Taoist origins.
This is a festival for people having fun. On the night of the festival, people go on streets with a variety of lanterns under the full moon, watching lions or dragon dancing, playing Chinese riddles and games, and lighting up firecrackers. There is really a lot of fun for the young and the old.
Yuanxiao (glutinous rice ball) or Tangyuan is the special food for the Lantern Festival. It is believed that Yuanxiao is named after a palace maid, Yuanxiao, of Emperor Wu Di of the Han Dynasty.
Yuanxiao is a kind of sweet dumpling, which is made with sticky rice flour filled with sweet stuffing.
Yuanxiao is sticky, sweet and round in shape, symbolizing family unity, completeness and happiness.
In the early morning,the sky is dark,there is not a cloud,but also a it's raining,there are more people on the road than I look at the 's Qingming Festival!

When I watch the TV series, there always present the rich family's life, but I don't feel envious about the rich life. It is obvious that though these people live the better life, the cost is that their parents spend less time to play with them. The time to stay with our parents is really important, while the rich parents have much work to do, so they don't have much private hours. I was born in an ordinary family. My parents will never miss the moment when I need them. I am so thankful to life, because I have my parents' love. What's more, I have made many good friends. We share our interest and have a lot in common.
Usually stay up late and set off fireworks on New Year‘s Eve. By the first day of first lunar month， people are wearing festival dresses and begin to visit or welcome family， friends and loved ones. They greet each other “Happy New Year” and “Happy Spring Festival” and invite guests to drink tea and chat at their home.
There are a plethora (过量)of activities during the Spring Festival including opera and movie performances lion dances and temple fairs. There are also people who prefer to stay at home and watch television. Pasting New Year scrolls and watching festive lanterns are also the traditional movements for the Spring Festival celebration.
The ways of Spring Festival celebration are changing along with the standard of living. For instance， traveling has becoming a new fashion of Spring Festival celebration.
Mother's day comes again.

Changes in my hometown
My hometown has changed a lot in the last few years. In the past, there used to be old small houses in my hometown. The river in front of the village was very dirty, and smelt terrible. The children had to go to school on foot or by bike. But now there are many new tall buildings instead of the small houses. It looks clean everywhere in my hometown. The river is clear enough for children to swim in. Most children go to school by bus, and some parents take their children to school in a car.

The Lunar New Year is a great occasion to the Chinese people. It lasts about the first four days of the year， during which people do not work except for the workers on duty. Students do not go to school， and shops are closed.

Dragon Boat race Traditions At the center of this festival are the dragon boat races. Competing teams drive their colorful dragon boats forward to the rhythm of beating drums. These exciting races were inspired by the villager's valiant attempts to rescue Chu Yuan from the Mi Lo river. This tradition has remained unbroken for centuries.
Tzung Tzu A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat festival is tzung tzu. This tasty dish consists of rice dumplings with meat, peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The tradition of tzung tzu is meant to remind us of the village fishermen scattering rice across the water of the Mi Low river in order to appease the river dragons so that they would not devour Chu Yuan.
Ay Taso The time of year of the Dragon Boat Festival, the fifth lunar moon, has more significance than just the story of Chu Yuan. Many Chinese consider this time of year an especially dangerous time when extra efforts must be made to protect their family from illness. Families will hang various herbs, called Ay Tsao, on their door for protection. The drinking of realgar wine is thought to remove poisons from the body. Hsiang Bao are also worn. These sachets contain various fragrant medicinal herbs thought to protect the wearer from illness.
When the traditional festival comes, everybody is excited about it, because they will have holiday to relax. The meaning of these festivals is remembered by the old generation all the time, while some young people do not know. So when we enjoy the holiday, we need to know more about the traditional culture.
A foreign girl shot a video to ask Chinese young people something about Mid-autumn festival. To everybody’s surprise, a lot of them did not know the story about this big day. When I was very small, I have watched many TV series telling about the myth of Hou Yi and his wife. I learned many Chinese myths and legends from the shows. Though some people enjoy the festival, they should learn the culture.
