A Major Advantage/Disadvantage of the Information Age
As everyone knows, the information age has brought us countless benefits, but when it comes to its major advantage, people may hold different views. As for me, the major advantage of the Information Age is that it makes it easy for individuals to have instant access to all kinds of information. In the past, for instance, if a student was meant to compose a thesis, he was supposed to bury himself in piles of books in the library, and probably after several days’ or even several months’ searching, he still could not find the materials he wanted. But now it is a totally different story. The advanced techniques of the information age have spared us all those troubles. What we need to do is just sit in front of the computer and search for our target information on the Internet rather than struggle painfully in numerous books. More excitingly, we don’t have to waste several days or even months waiting. Usually the information we need will be transferred to us in seconds. The information age can not only bring convenience to students in searching of materials, but also help people in all walks of life, save their energy and enhance their efficiency. Now since we’re in an economy based around the manipulation of information, I have every reason to believe that this advantage of the information age will play an even greater role in the future.
Just as is revealed in the pictures above, people are generally classified into two types: the pessimistic and the optimistic. We can see in one picture some people, long-faced and downhearted, are counting the nights by the shadows while in the other picture the happy-go-lucky people are enjoying the starry nights. What a contrastive view! Remember, it is not the bad thing that determines our state of mind but the way we look at it matters. (描述点题段) (以小到大)
An example that comes to mind is SARS crisis that has recently torn apart and ravaged most of China. Admittedly, it has cost us quite a lot. Some people suffered from health damage and still some even lost their lives. And our economy suffers a temporary setback and a slowdown. However, we still have learnt and benefited a lot from it. (举例说明段) 4. First things first, we are more concerned than never before with our health, and the environment we live in. Additionally, we tried and bettered and are still bettering our mechanism to respond to unexpected crises. These and other lessons at the expense of blood, tear, toil and sweat are benefiting and continue to benefit us and generations of Chinese to come. (分析问题段)
The best way to overcome the frustrations brought about crises is to always take a positive outlook on life. Just as a well-known ancient Chinese notion goes, the past lessons if not forgotten are good teachers for us all. If we can bear in mind sufferings and ordeals we have experienced, then our sufferings will not go unrewarded. (前瞻感言段)
There has been much talk recently about whether we should learn from books or we should learn from experience. Some people think that learning from experience is more important while others hold the different opinions. Personally, I side with the former, in the belief that experience is the best teacher.
Admittedly, learning from books, as advocated by many, has its active role to play in our academic life. It can put us in touch with the great minds and arm our heads with massive knowledge.
However, there are numerous merits for learning from experience, too. First things first, experience is the source of knowledge and understanding as well as meaning. Nowhere can the importance of learning from experience be described so vividly and accurately as in the old saying- “Nothing ever becomes real till it is experienced”. Take the human progress as an illustration. Dating back to hundreds of thousands years ago, we human beings were utterly ignorant. But by incessant practices, our ancestors cumulated massive experience, from which they acquired a great amount of knowledge, transforming our world from a primitive society into a highly-developed one. Second, unlike the theories recorded in books, experiences can apply to practical use. When we are at work, what we need is the experience of practical application instead of the abstract theories in our books.
Taking all these into account, we can draw a conclusion that learning from experience is more important than learning from books. Always remember the old saying given by Einstein
In recent years there has been a dramatic rise in the cell phones, which are now essential to millions of people as a convenient form of communication. In 20_ the number reached 315,000,000, with an average annual increase at 57,500,000.
Some people can now no longer imagine life without their cell phones. The fact that they are so popular proves that they are useful and convenient. Cell phones enable people to easily and quickly communicate with one another; wherever you are, you can instantly reach somebody. Cell phones eliminate the trouble of not being able to meet someone in person, and therefore increase business’s efficiency.
Mobile phones necessarily also harbor disadvantages. The radiation such phones emit is hazardous to one’s health. Furthermore, if people become too reliant on the use of cell phones, our face to face skills may decline. Any new invention has its drawbacks, and such negative aspects cannot always diminish its popularity. Despite the negative effects of television, for example, the number of people who own televisions continues to grow at a tremendous rate. This is also the case with mobile phones. People won’t stop eating just because of the risk of choking. In addition, the swift development of science and technology will likely eliminate the hazards cell phones may cause. One can safely predict, therefore, that with the introduction of new techniques, mobile phones will have more applications and become even more appealing to customers.
Crisis is to our life what illness is to our body. Just as fatal disease can destroy our body and sometimes even put an end to our lives, so does smashing crisis knock us down so hopelessly that we might never have chance of standing up again. However, most crises that frequent us in life are not such category. They, like occasional ailments which sometimes can bolster our body's immune system, are mostly minor and surmountable and therefore making us hardy enough to survive whatever adversities in our later life. Even those serious crises, if handled properly, can be turned to a blessing to us, too.
As far as a nation is concerned, crisis can be rendered beneficial. Take Wenchuan earthquake which shook most of Sichuan recently for example. The crisis has cost us Chinese a lot. Houses collapsed, bridges broke down and many affected areas were cut off from the outside world. Nearly a million people lost their homes, ten thousands of people were injured and another ten thousands of people were killed. But our sufferings won't go in vain. Scientists are more determined to improve the means by which we forecast earthquakes with more accuracy. We should build houses which can survive the destructive earthquakes. And we also should better the mechanism to face the emergencies and crisis.
As for economic life, crises are not always rendered bad. During these times, we can stop the race of fast economy to speculate about some fundamental issues of humanity such as how much high-speed development in this way can contribute to the well-being of human life. Just take my own country for instance. Of course, in the past two decades or so, our economy has gained the highest speed man has experienced. But haven't we paid too much? Our rivers are polluted. Our natural resources are shrinking. Our national power of creation is drained. Is it worthy of it? Isn't it high time we gave it a serious thought? Shouldn't we stop making ourselves long in quantity and short in quality? And chance of deep thought has come with this crisis, which is now deepening in most parts of the world.
Crisis sometimes contributes to our life treasure in a way that few can imagine. It can weather us and make us strong enough to face ourselves when we feel weak. Eric, my uncle is a case in point. He had hard time in his childhood going through such a fatal disease that he had never thought he could survive. He was in due course saved by doctors. Ever since then he regarded his life as a second given by God and has been so grateful to the world that he has been doing whatever he can to give back in the same measure to other fellows. And now he is living a happy and successful life.
As a well-known ancient Chinese notion goes, the past lessons if not forgotten can be good teachers for us all. If we can bear in mind the various sufferings and ordeals we have experienced, then our sufferings will not go unrewarded and those of our compatriots who was killed in the earthquake did not die in vain. We should take the lessons from crisis and regard them as a chance for new growth.
I definitely believe that a regular amount of suitable daily exercise is an important factor in maintaining one's health. The focus is on the word “suitable" because a person's age and physical condition can dictate the type and amount of exercise that is appropriate.
There is a wide variety of exercise routines available to suit people of all ages and condition but it is wise to seek the advice of a doctor before taking on a fitness program that may not be suitable: The growth of fitness studios in the big cities has made it easier for busy people to work out a program to fit their time schedule. Most of these studios are staffed with competent and qualified professionals who can tailor a fitness program to best suit one’s needs. Some people rely on sport to provide the exercise they need but some sports carry a risk of injury. People who lead a sedentary life that does not involve much physical activity can offset this through isometric exercises. While the professional studios come equipped with all the latest machines and aids, there are plenty of ways a person can get sufficient exercise without incurring the cost associated with studio fees. Walking or riding a bike are excellent sources of providing free exercise but one of the most popular is the regular practice of the Tai Chi movements.
In conclusion, daily exercise is important for health and there are many ways to do this which cost little amounts of money.
I am not supportive of the idea that either takes priority. It is necessary and absolutely possible that economic development and environmental protection co-exist,in the sense that both of them are indispensable factors for the prosperity of society.
Economic development is seemingly more important, due to the fact that it creates enormous job opportunities, improves living conditions and increases government revenues. Yet, the above goals can only really be reached on condition that the environment is well. protected. And, interestingly, it is the economic development per se that provides the money and personnel resources required for the protection of the environment. A well-preserved environment is the groundwork for the economy and in a way promotes economic growth. A fast-developing and well-functioning economy calls for a good environment, which offers essential resources, . wood, coal, water, etc. for production. Once the environment deteriorates, the production process is likely to be disturbed or even halted. What is worse, natural disasters that come with the worsening environmental conditions might even paralyses the whole economy mid pose a severe threat to human life, The pursuit of short-term economic profit is the destruction of our home and that of our posterity.
So, economic development and environmental protection are equally important. In this sense, we are actually working on an environment-friendly economy. Given the status quod, it is possible to realize the co-existence of the two as long as we are conscious and determined enough.
Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others , however, think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Over the last half century the pace of change in the life of human beings has increased beyond our wildest expectations. This has been driven by technological and scientific breakthroughs that are changing the whole way we view the world on an almost daily basis. This means that change is not always a personal option, but an inescapable fact of life, and we need to constantly adapt to keep pace with it.
Those people who believe they have achieved some security by doing the same, familiar things are living in denial. Even when people believe they are resisting change themselves, they cannot stop the world around them from changing. Sooner or later they will find that the familiar jobs no longer exist, or that the ‘safe’ patterns of behavior are not longer appropriate.
However, reaching the conclusion that change is inevitable is not the same as assuming that ‘change is always for the better.’ Unfortunately, it is not always the case that new things are promoted because they have good impacts for the majority of people. A lot of innovations are made with the aim of making money for a few. This is because it is the rich and powerful people in our society who are able to impose changes(such as in working conditions or property developments ) that are in their own interests.
In conclusion, I would say that change can be stimulating and energizing for individuals when they pursue it themselves, but that all change, including that which is imposed on people, does not necessarily have good outcomes.
My younger cousin got in trouble at school for kicking some other students. When asked why he did it, he responded that he had been imitating his favorite cartoon character. He had seen this behavior and decided to act similarly. His parents had enormous difficulties getting him to stop. This showed me that TV shows can be more influential than parents. Finally, young people often feel like they have nothing in common with their parents, so their parents' influence in their live decreases. Young people think their parents do. For example, many parents are not as proficient as their children are at using modern technology. They might not even know how to surf the Internet or use an MP3 player. This gap in knowledge makes it very hard for them to find common ground with their parents. In conclusion, modern media and the world of technology have much stronger influences on young people than their parents do. As young people get more absorbed in television, movies celebrities, and their friends, parents should expect to continue losing more control over their believe that outside influences have stronger effects on young people than their parents do. This, however, is a mistaken belief.
my mother has to work overtime tonight to arrange the meeting place, call to tell me to come back later, let me finish my homework to sleep first. after i finished my homework, a man was scared at home and wanted to surprise his mother, waiting for her to come back and open the door for her.
i watched the television in absentmindedly, listening to the footsteps outside the door.
"tramp... "i opened the door quickly, and, alas, the children playing under the stairs went home. i went to the door and thought, "mom, when are you coming back?"
late at night, i took a nap on the sofa. "unter den... suddenly, there was a slow sound of footsteps near my ear, and my mother came back! i jumped up with a carp and quickly opened the door. unfortunately, she returned to the door.
it's so late, mom should be back soon. can't sleep! i was so strong that i pricked up my ears and listened to the noise outside.
the sound of footsteps again sounded so weak. this isn't mom, is she sick? i opened the door, and sure enough, mom, i hugged my mother and asked, "how did you get back here? i'm dying of waiting." mother shook her head in despair.
mother, you have worked hard, without your hard work, and will not have my happy life today!
We talked about the advantages and disadvantages of internet shopping these days. Some students think it s very convenient for us to go shopping on the internet. The shops on Internet ,for example , are open for almost 24 hours a day, so we can buy something we want at any time if we like. What s more, we needn t to wait in a queue.
However, some students disagreed with them. We can t see the things while we are shopping. So we are not sure whether they are good or not.。 Besides, we can t enjoy the happiness of shopping with our friends.

The Value of University Life
There are reports about businessmen, tars, celebrities who are undereducated and even did not graduate from high school. Therefore, some college students doubt about the value of college life. As far as I’m concerned, I’d say college life is the most valuable in the following aspects .
Time spent at a university is the most worthwhile period in a young person’s life. This is a time when a student begins to form his or her ideas about life in general. Attending classes and studying in the library keep a student busy and provide him or her with access to valuable information, adding to his or her knowledge base.
During the time a student spends at university, he not only develops his intellectual11 abilities, but also develops social skills as well as knowledge and wisdom necessary for choosing a future career. By learning how to balance intense study and recreation , a student will be well prepared for the challenges of future responsibilities.
Therefore, it’s only too natural to draw the conclusion that university life, if enjoyed fully and made best use of, is very rewarding in various ways.
Many people describe their college years as the best time of their lives. However, not every student achieves the same level of success. This raise the question: What is the most essential quality needed to succeed in one’s higher education?
Personally, of all attributes that can contribute to a successful college career, the most important one is effective time management. To begin with, students who know how to manage their time effectively will be able to ensure strong academic performance. While getting high grades in by no means the only aspect of success for undergraduates, students who fail in most or all of their courses could hardly be considered successful. In addition, time-management consciousness can enable students to become more socially successful. University is not just an academic experience, but also a social one. Students who fail to budget their time and, in turn, fall behind in their studies, will have fewer opportunities to hang out with friends and classmates.
For the above reasons, I believe that time management is the most important quality for a college students.
Nowadays, with the improvement of the people’s living standard, some people form a habit of raising small or domestic animals as pets. Some raise small dogs or cats as their pets while others raise various birds or fishes as their pets.
However, some people object to the idea of raising animals as pets. To them, animals have their own right to live a natural life like human beings. On the other hand, the way people raise animals as pets have a negative influence on the surroundings, for example, dogs’ chasing people on the street and so on. What’s more, some animals will transmit some diseases.
In my opinion, I do not like the idea to raise animals as pets. We should not deprive them of their natural right. In this way, we will live in a peaceful world in harmony with the other living creatures.
With the background of education playing an increasing big role in society, more and more students study abroad from middle discussion about studying abroad has never ’s analyze the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad before drawing the final conclusion.
The biggest advantage is that students can learn different ways of teaching and learning, and adequate research ’s more, students can develop a more reasonable view about the world by meeting different but not least, the experience of studying abroad will be invaluable to students’ character study has its ’s essential to take the condition of family as an important premise when deciding to go abroad to costs are much higher than those in our native the second place,if a person does not make full preparations before going abroad,he will have great difficulty in adapting to the new environment.
Through the analysis,we can draw the conclusion that the advantages are far outweighed by the the students return home, they will make great contributions to our country.
I am not supportive of the idea that either takes priority. It is necessary and absolutely possible that economic development and environmental protection co-exist, in the sense that both of them are indispensable factors for the prosperity of society.
Economic development is seemingly more important, due to the fact that it creates enormous job opportunities, improves living conditions and increases government revenues. Yet, the above goals can only really be reached on condition that the environment is well protected. And, interesting, it is the economic development per se that provides the money and personnel resources required for the protection of the environment. A well-preserved environment is the groundwork for the economy and in a way promotes economic growth. A fast-development and well-functioning economy calls for a good environment, which offers essential resources, . wood, coal, water, and so on. Once the environment deteriorates, the production process is likely to be disturbed or even halted. What is worse, natural disaster that comes with the worsening environmental conditions might even paralyze the whole economy and pose a severe threat to human life. The pursuit of short-term economic profit is the destruction of our home and that of our posterity.
So economic development and environmental protection are equally important. In this case, we are actually working on an environment-friendly economy.
Few things in the modern world have so much influence on people as the television does. Being besieged with TV news, absorbing teleplays, well-masterminded programmes, one can easily conclude that TV is a real blessing to the human society, offering affluent entertainment and information. Yet, convenient and helpful as it is, the television also brings negative effects.
To begin with, TV makes people more passive than before: since everything on TV is ready-made, there is no space for audience’s initiatives. The news has been carefully edited, teleplays well shot, programmes rehearsed, so all you need to do—and all you can do is to sit on a comfortable sofa and look at the screen. Though a lot of people enjoy doing this, the undoubted truth is that people are becoming more passive simply because there is no interaction and no efforts on them.
Television also contributes to the fact that people nowadays are more distant to each other. Since most of our free time is taken away by the act of watching TV, we can no longer find enough time to visit friends, call on relatives or go to interesting places. This is also true within a family, parents and children and other members are less close to each other, because family get-togethers and conversations are disturbed by TV—when one member is watching TV, he would like others to keep quiet.
Of course I am not denying the great conveniences and huge benefits the TV brings us, but to make it a really blessing to us, we should try to avoid its negative effects.
at the beginning of this term, i made a plan for my study。 now, i find that i carry it out well in the past month。 i was poor in chinese and english last semester。 therefore, i put the two subjects in the priority and i spent much time on them。 happily, i made progress in the two subjects this semester。 besides, math and physics is not so hard for me, but i must do many exercises to improve my knowledge。 half of an hour for each is necessary and i have always been doing so。 the other subjects are easy for me。 as long as i carefully listen to the teacher in the class and do some reviews, i can do well in them。 while, it does not mean that i attach no importance to them。 i make plan for my study to ensure the efficiency of my study。
When it comes to choosing a job I believe that one's own interest should be considered as an important criterion.
I concede that big cities usually provide more opportunities than smaller cities. And the challenges presented with big cities can also motivate new graduates to adjust to the real competitive world fast. In the same sense, remuneration undeniably would be a major factor as well. However, as far as I am concerned, the decisive factor should be one's interest. People can easily be trapped in a job which does not inspire them. But work can also be a source of infinite pleasure and enjoyment if it intrigues an individual. Furthermore, one is much more likely to obtain achievements by playing to one's strengths. Life would be more meaningful when one endeavours to pursue one's real interests and follow one's heart. Admittedly, it is hard not to be tempted by a high salary. Yet, in the long run, one will come to the realisation that it is shortsighted to exchange one's passion for monetary rewards.
In the final analysis, although there are a myriad of factors to be considered before making a decision, from my standpoint, I believe that one should never forgo one's true passion.
College Students Starting Their Own Undertakings
Nowadays there are many college students who choose to start their own undertakings instead of ?nding a job after graduation. The government encourages this practice, and provides many preferential policies and facilitation measures for college students. As far as I’m concerned, an array of integrated factors contributes to this.
The ?rst factor that should be mentioned is that college students are facing severe employment situations. Many college graduates couldn’t find ideal jobs, which forces them to set up their own businesses. Another equally important factor is that some ambitious college students are not satisfied with being employed by others. They want to develop and prove their talents by running their own , the government’s encouragement and the media’s reports on college students venture stars have stimulated more college students’ enthusiasm to take this way.
As for me, it is a good choice for college students to start their own undertakings. However, it is a very difficult cause, which needs firm determination, clear mind, the ability to endure hardship and a feasible project. Therefore, they should think it over and make full preparation before deciding to start their own businesses.
Nowadays, more and more college students are addicted to online games. Those games may be funny and exciting, but are very harmful to those addicts.
In my opinion, there are many disadvantages of game , online games take up a lot of players’ time for study. Many of the addicts found themselves forced to drop out of school for poor academic performance. Secondly, addicts tend to isolate themselves from the reality. What’s worse , indulging in the virtual world for a long time, they are more liable to suffer mental problem and physical collapse. Thirdly , players are exposed to too much violent and unhealthy material, which is definitely harmful to their growth.
In short,I cannot see any benefits from online should be the primary concern of college students. Therefore,I do hope they can step away from online games.
Universities provide students with an environment in which to learn, mature and began to realize their potential. While some students maintain a rigid, singular focus on their studies —— the next exam, essay or assignment —— others engage in a variety of extracurricular activities out side the classroom. Participation in such activities can greatly benefit students in their academic studies, chosen careers, and future life.
The most immediate benefit of extracurricular activities is to the participants’ studies. Spending an appropriate amount of time participating in sports, clubs or volunteer work can actually be an excellent way for students to relieve everyday stress. Students who are less stressed out will naturally be happier and healthier. In turn, they will be able to work more efficiently and effectively in their studies and attain better results. In addition, participation in extracurricular activities will also assist university students in their careers after graduation. Increasingly, employers seeking job applicants are not interested solely in students with a high GPA. Many companies also consider involvement in other activities when assessing which applicants are most qualified for the position because extracurricular activities also enable students to improve their communication, leadership and teamwork skills, which are important skills that they will need to succeed in their careers. Last but not least, students who take part in activities after school will learn how to live a more balanced and fulfilling life. As the saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” In other words, those who do noting else but work or study all day will become bored, uninspired, and apathetic towards life. Extracurricular activities can give students a greater appreciation for sports, hobbies and community service, and help them become healthier and more well-rounded individuals.
While academics are obviously important, it is neither necessary or advisable for students to spend on hundred percent of their time on their books. University students who devote some of their time and energy to extracurricular activities will be doing a service to their studies, their careers, and even their future life.
